Farmington Michigan History:
Farmington was founded in 1824 by a man named Arthur Power. Power
was a Quaker man whom came from the state of New York. Farmington was
originally named Quakertown, as many of the settlers who came with Power were
also of the Quaker religion. Then in 1825 the first post office was established by
Dr. Eziekial Webb, a doctor and Farmington’s first postmaster. In 1826, Quakertown became Farmington, after Power’s hometown of Farmington, New York. Next came Farmington’s first school in 1828. It should also be noted that during the time of slavery, Farmington served as a station for the underground railroad.
Farmington Michigan Geography:
Farmington was the site of three prominent Native American Trails
which include the Orchard Lake Trail, Grand River Trail, and the Shiawassee Trail.
The city of Farmington covers over 33 square miles of land, which about .03 is
made up of water. Farmington is just west of Royal Oak.
